Mrs. Meredith Pitts Smith is a Partner in the Orlando office of CPLS, P.A. She is a member of the firm’s Litigation, Guardianship, Probate, and Personal Injury Law Groups.
Mrs. Smith has been involved in the general civil litigation for over 12 years. Prior to joining CPLS, she practiced general civil litigation as a sole practitioner for four years and before that with two smaller law firms for five years. She also led and prosecuted cases for three years while working as an assistant to the state attorney for the Ninth Judicial Circuit Court.
Mrs. Smith has represented clients on many issues in general civil litigation, including personal injury, contract disputes, business litigation, guardianship litigation, trust litigation, complex corporate litigation, probate litigation, and criminal defense. Her clients include individuals and businesses of all sizes.
Mrs. Smith has amassed extensive trial experience, representing clients in state and federal courts in over 150 jury and non-jury trials as lead attorney or first chair counsel.
Mrs. Smith has extensive experience in personal injury, contract disputes, business litigation, and guardianship litigation.
Ms. Smith has a decade’s worth of experience establishing and maintaining guardianships, as well as litigation in guardianship proceedings in Central Florida. Her experience was gained both in private law firms and in her own solo practice.
Ms. Smith’s notable achievements in guardianship cases include establishing a different guardianship for a ward whose then guardian was incapacitated by chronic alcoholism, and winning a case where a ward’s previous guardian was made accountable for breaches of fiduciary duty.
Ms. Smith spent three years heading up the litigation team for an elder law firm prior to joining CPLS, P.A. During that time, Mrs. Smith acted as second chair in a trust litigation and trial which successfully voided a $10 million dollar trust that arose out of a probate proceeding.
In addition to the $10 million dollar trust case, she successfully navigated numerous other probate cases, a notable one being a trial to contest a will initiated by the brother of the decedent, which Ms. Smith and her team won.
Mrs. Smith recognizes that many of her clients are in emotionally trying situations, and strives to streamline client initiation and communication, as well as ensure that the client’s experience is as stress-free as possible. She is committed to providing her clients with reliable progress updates, staying in touch with her clients, especially in times of crisis, and providing legal analyses to her clients in an easily understood manner.
Mrs. Smith is a third generation Orlando attorney, and enjoys spending time with her spouse and three kids. She is also a Legal Aid volunteer.
